Nestled in the Northern Japanese Alps of Nagano Prefecture, Hakuba is a year-round destination that captivates both Japanese and international travelers.

Unlike many other ski resorts in Japan, Hakuba offers a truly unique experience—world-class powder skiing for all skill levels, historic Olympic slopes, warm local hospitality, and an authentic cultural charm that lingers long after your visit. While many winter destinations have modernized at the expense of their heritage, Hakuba has preserved its distinct character and unmistakable Japanese identity.

As the host of the 1998 Winter Olympics, Hakuba cemented its status as a premier winter sports destination. The Freeride World Tour events in 2017 and 2018 only reaffirmed what locals have always known—Hakuba is a world-class skiing paradise with diverse terrain suited for everyone, from first-time skiers to seasoned adventurers.

Navigating the Hakuba Valley: Ski Map Overview

With its vast and varied terrain, exploring a Hakuba ski map is essential for understanding the layout of
this iconic Japanese ski destination. Nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Northern Japan Alps,
Hakuba Valley stretches over 40 kilometers and features 10 unique ski resorts spread across three distinct
towns and villages, each offering its own character and range of accommodations.

The valley runs south to north, beginning in the mountain town of Omachi, where you'll find the quieter
resorts of Jiigatake and the lakeside slopes of Kashimayari. Moving northward, the heart of the valley is
home to the bustling main village area, where popular resorts like Sanosaka, Goryu, Hakuba 47, Happo-
One, and Iwatake are located—making it the hub for most visitors.

Further north near the Japan Sea lies Otari Village, renowned for deep powder and a more off-the-
beaten-path experience. Here, you'll find the freeride favorites: Tsugaike, Norikura, and Cortina.

To make getting around easy, a well-connected shuttle bus system links Hakuba Base Camp (Echoland),
the Happo Bus Terminal, and various accommodation areas with all 10 ski resorts shown on the Hakuba
ski map.
